Stick 'Em
De San Diego Chargers riskeren boetes en het verlies van Draft Picks, omdat een materiaalman met verboden middelen is gesignaleerd.
Het betreft ‘Stick Em’, een plakkerig goedje dat gebruikt wordt op handschoenen om beter grip te krijgen. Op de bal bijvoorbeeld. En dat is in het wetboek van de NFL hartstikke verboden. De materiaalman werd betrapt toen de ‘Stick Em’ tijdens een time-out uit een handdoek viel. Prompt voor de voeten van een van de scheidsrechters. In plaats van een grapje te maken over ‘persoonlijk gebruik’ liep de materiaalman echter rood aan. En dat zette de scheidsrechter aan het denken. Hij schakelde de white cap in.
De ‘Stick Em’ zaak is wellicht minder sensationeel als Bountygate, maar kan op de knuffelfactorladder zeker meekomen met Spygate van Bill Belichick. Vals spelen is vals spelen — alhoewel het in het geval van de San Diego Chargers kennelijk niet uitmaakt wat ze doen. Een rampzalig seizoen beleven ze daar in het Gaslight District toch wel.
